Very interesting M.B. How do people end up possessed?

I meant to add M.B - I read the Rosicrucian manifesto recently, and the aims outlined, among others, such as one bank, one world government ect along with the new atalantis by Francis Bacon seem to be taking a strong shape in the World today. How influential have these manifestos and Bacon's vision been? Is there really elements working towards the Rosicrucian vision, as well meaning as it may sound, or is that straying into Alex Jones territory?

Demons are quite cocky (or perhaps a less inflammatory word would be - egotistical) - I agree.

I believe that one of the ways people can become possessed, Nick, would be if they 'meddled' for example with a ouija board in a way that encouraged a demon to partially breach the membrane between the spirit worlds and this one. If they later cursed or damned someone, perhaps even in a quite casual way, the demon might be let in.

I think the greatest representatives of the Rosicrucian impulse today are the followers of Rudolf Steiner. His organization, Anthroposophy, hasn't grown as he predicted, but some of the discussions below make me wonder if it isn't spreading in other ways. In particualr look a the influnece of his teaching on the papacy and the current Archbishop of Canterbury. Perhaps the Church has become a vehicle for esoteric teaching in the same way that, as we all know, the Roman Empire became a vehicle for Christianity?

String, as I said before - Take care!

As far as demons attaching to people, there are many ways besides those discussed above that I have 'heard' about.

One good way to witness this is to hang about in pubs or places where people use substances to 'open' themselves but do not use the appropriate closing energies.

Drugs, when used incorrectly are also good ways. I hear that demons can jump off also from those they possess to others in the environment.

According to some cults can engender this, in that people are very open when they believe they are around those who purport to be godlike. For a good discussion of some of that phenomena you can read "The Devil's Party" by Colin Wilson.

Demons can also be found lurking about in jails, hospitals and insane asylums. And then of course you have those who love the seven deadly sins...And there are those who actively invite them. Crowley and others.

Hope this helps.

There is quite a bit of research on this subject out there. Another 'interesting' old book is 'Psychic Self Defense' by Dion Fortune.

I'm not going to get cross... but I think you have to be careful about linking insane asylums and demons; one wrong step and you've ended up with Scientology. Having worked in jails, hospitals and mental institutions (at varying levels of security) I can see the point, but it risks being too close to a generalisation to actually be helpful. I would counsel caution.

And, of course, you are perfectly entitled to ignore me, String!

String

No let me spend more time explaining...essentially I have read that they can be found around places of extreme emotion because it is in those places that people are open...so in a general way you are right, not good to generalize - at the same time, why get cross about any of it?

Caution? You and Jonathan use 'caution' and 'take care' - and I agree I begin to be quite cautious when I start hearing those words from others who don't know me.

IF they exist, then they will be in places where they can attach to people...and places where people experience anger and pain are pretty good places to begin. I have not found my experiences of any of the mentioned places to be pain-free nor of my experiences of the people in them. In general I don't like discussing this topic at all, because of the negativity people feel around the subject. So that's it from me!

Stef

String, I apologise - reading it back I think I was being unduly harsh... but it's the kind of thing that one hears every day from "cults" who believe that they have all the answers, and that's the bit that really winds me up.

You're right, extreme emotional states attract demons like spangly things attract magpies (to coin a phrase). I suppose I'm being a little defensive as I had awful post-natal depression and experienced the "system" from a side that I wasn't really used to, and I didn't really like the experience. I was desperate get discharged from mental health care as soon as possible so that I could start getting control over my life again - and I was only an outpatient!!! I can only imagine what it's like to have to stay...

Anyway, again I apologise String. I didn't mean to offend you and am sorry that I did.

I am not a great fan of cults - and I have done extensive study on them due to the involvement of many friends - some now dead as a result, a very clear understanding and a lot of curiosity about mental manipulation. I used to live in a town with too many cults, Sedona Az.

I have also done extensive research on the topic we are discussing. I am sorry to hear of your issues with PND - a close friend had the same and the first thing they prescribed was anti-depressants.

You didn't offend me - this is a very touchy subject, and a very misunderstood one, due to the prevalence of negative energy in many places and the fact that 'they' are an unknown to many. Do 'they' exist, we might ask? Should we give 'them' that power?

We are all open at one time or another - only understanding our own shadow-side will prevent being used by anything negative. People 'fear' what they don't understand, once they understand this particular subject, they fear, and rightly so, but mostly because they don't understand their own dark self and how to shut doors.

From my perspective I try not to tell people to 'take care' or 'be cautious' due to the fact that for me, this would mean my dark side is involved. Why? How would I know they should 'be cautious' unless I was sending something their way? I am very precognitive, so if I did intuit that something might happen I would say it differently. Even if I am angry, what right have I? Have they hurt me? Am I in defense? Why? If not...it's better that I just ignore. But that is just me.

I've heard that Demons feed off of intense energy...so the more fearful, worked up, anxious, angry, sad etc someone gets, the more they 'come out to play' - if they are around. They don't like positive humor or love and being ignored or being ruled out by mundane thought. This is why if they are talked about I've heard it is better that this is done in jest or with love - if they feed on that, they just pop like overblown colourful halloween balloons.

Enough of my soapbox - posts can be wildly misunderstood, which is why this is a topic which should not, in my opinion, be given too much credibility or energy on the internet - it does deal with energy I don't really like nor condone. I do carry a handy little pin though! ;-)

Mark, Al, Stef, String should you be interested I've finally dusted down my blog and have made an effort to start on it :D

I realize I am a pithy citizen of the US- not vewy vewy smart or educated. But really folks...why would anyone want to be possessed?
