The great world-weaving Thought-beings constantly swim through our mental space. Maybe for the most part they're too big for us to see?
These beings of the higher hierarchies can seem indifferent to us. Some have reported that encountering them is like finding yourself swimming in the middle of a school of whales, too big to even notice a tiny human spirit, capable of destroying a human spirit without even noticing.
The sort of reflections that a large-scale natural disaster might inspire in us.
But esoteric philosophy teaches us that they only seem indifferent. Trying to get a perspective on thoughts which may be too big or too small to be perceived in the ordinary way, too close to the centre of consciousness for us to be able to focus on but still in some sense in our mental space: this is the aim of the whole esoteric enterprise.
This reminded me of an image in The Dreaming Void by Peter F Hamilton, one of my favourite authors. Okay, it's science fiction, but bear with me. One of his latest "themes" if you like, is the post-physical body. Some of his characters download into an AI and appear as virtual bodies, some "alien" species are just disembodied consciousnesses. In The Dreaming Void, a key character communicates via dreams with an entity that exists in a black hole. Some of the imagery he uses is reminiscent of the description of the creation of the Universe in the Secret History. It's beautiful.
Is Peter Hamilton an initiate? Almost certainly not (and I've read enough of his blog to say that) but he's anti-organised religion so it might just be his way of getting to grips with an obviously HUGE idea. If anyone gets the urge to read his stuff, bear in mind that at 750 pages, his latest work is short... the previous two books (which also have "angels" and post-physical entities as major characters) both weighed in at 1200 pages each. But they are worth the effort, because he has some fabulous ideas.
Don't know where all this came from, and sorry, but the one kind of followed into the other....

Maybe most of us aren't conscious enough to see them, at least not yet. In "City of Djinns" by William Dalrymple a Sufi who fasted and meditated for days while partially submerged in water was finally able to see a Djinn, and when the author asked if he could be allowed to see the Djinns as well he was told he could, but that he'd be frightened since the Djinn are jet black with one eye and over ten feet tall. Have I mentioned that maybe it's a good thing most of us aren't conscious enough to see them? :D Maybe a Ministry or Department should make a warning label like the ones found on cigarette packages or graphically violent computer games that read, "Warning: Commerce with Disembodied Spirits can be hazardous to your mental, physical and spiritual health. If you are pregnant, have a weak heart or have been drinking, avoid any interaction with Disembodied Spirits and please consult your nearest Initiate before interaction."
